Azoteq is a fabless semiconductor company founded by Dr. Frederick Bruwer in 1998. The company initially developed the LightSenseTM range of products that enabled intelligent control for LED flashlights and headlamps. In 2004 the company decided to focus on the emerging touch and proximity markets and developed a range of products based its intellectual property. Since 2004 Azoteq was the first to integrate the reference capacitor on chip in a touch controller, first to incorporate on chip calibration, first to combine a single antenna for capacitive proximity and touch sensing, first to incorporate on chip RF detection.
Azoteq’s intellectual property is protected by over 39 patents in the USA, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong. The patents cover fundamental concepts of next generation user interfaces for proximity sensing, touch detection and activation of desired function.

Azoteq’s South Africa R&D centre is ISO9001:2008 certified. Further, all subcontractors employed by Azoteq are all accredited by similar or more stringent Quality Management Systems.
